Little Rocks
The Little Rock Program is our young curler introductory program for children aged 8-11 as of December 31st of that calendar year and is designed to give these new curlers the basic skills to enjoy the game of curling in a non competitive and pressured atmosphere.
The Program runs from 8:00am to 9:30am every Saturday morning except for scheduled bonspiels which will affect the Little Rocks playing schedule. Carla Clancey will be looking after the Little Rock program this year and will appreciate any help you can offer.
With our on-ice coaches and helpers we teach the children the rules of the game, the delivery, sliding, rock release, sweeping, scoring etc. They get to throw a rock that weighs about 50% of a full granite stone and will gradually advance to throwing the big rocks once they develop form and strength.
The cost is $85 inclusive of HST and is a great deal for an introductory program sport. Space is limited to a maximum of about 44 curlers with priority going to past enrollees. Registration is on September 23rd from 6pm - 8pm at the DCC ( upstairs ).
Junior
The Junior Program is our young curler developmental program for children aged 12-20 as of December 31st of that calendar year and is designed to give these curlers an opportunity to further develop the skills needed to curl a good game as well as learn the social and traditional aspect of the sport.
The Program runs from 8:00am to 2:00pm every Sunday except for scheduled bonspiels which will affect the Junior playing schedule. This curling is primarily "social" curling and designed to mix all the curlers to simply enjoy the game. However, curlers wishing to improve their game to be more competitive will have that opportunity through additional training clinics under coached direction.
At this level the curlers also have the opportunity to participate and represent the DCC at various bonspiels put on throughout the year across the province.
Juniors run on Sundays with 3 draws starting at 8:00am, 10:00am and noon. The 8:00am draw is a team event only and is a bit more competitive while the other 2 draws are mixed scrambles with curlers awarded points based on team performance. The points are totaled weekly and awards given based on highest totals. Attendance is a major part of being successful in these draws.
The year is broken up into 2 sections. From opening day to Christmas and from New Years to season end. This equates to 6 trophy plays, 3 before Christmas and 3 after. All awards are given out at a final banquet held for the Juniors.
The cost is $120 inclusive of HST for regular entry and $170 for competitive entry and space is limited to a maximum of about 120 curlers with priority going to past enrollees. Registration is on September 23rd this year from 6pm - 8pm at the DCC ( upstairs ).
Competitive Curling
This year there will be a "Competitive Curling" division. This will consist of "on ice" training with a coach at a separate time (Saturday afternoon) where pre-determined team will get ice time to practice their skills and strategies and have the opportunity to represent the Dartmouth Curling Club at various events throughout the province.
